Substance abuse crosses all societal boundaries, affects both genders, every ethnic group, and people in every tax bracket. Scientific documentation defines alcoholism and drug dependence as a dis-ease that has roots in both genetic susceptibility and personal behavior.

When The Cool Change Foundation started some people were skeptical of the notion that we could make “recovery cool” and available to everybody whether their life depended on it or not. And that the subject of “recovery without shame” could be discussed by experts and volunteers coming together to create a new view of recovery expressed through interviews, books, seminars, and conversations – all for the simple purpose of removing the sigma from recovery.
No demands. No hidden agenda. No strings attached.
Nearly nine years after its founding, nearly 20 million people have used The Cool Change Foundation sites www.bradleyquick.com,
www.youtube.com/coolchangefoundation, www.livestream.com/coolchange, www.thecoolchangefoundation.org – certainly a large part of the Internet- world. It is one of the most popular websites of its kind in the world - but Cool Change Radio is a community creation of life changing interviews, and conversations, produced by people like you that believe in the cause, helping others. You are part of our community. And I’m writing today to ask you to help sustain The Cool Change Foundation. (read more)

Together, we can keep it open – you can listen or watch the Cool Change interviews any way you want, anytime you want. We can keep it growing – spreading “cool recovery” knowledge everywhere, and inviting participation from everyone.

Below please enjoy segments 1 & 2 of Herb Kaighan's interview. Herb is the author of "Twelve Steps To Spiritual Awakening, Enlightenment For Everyone" which details the actual 12 step process and describes the author's personal experience. It incorporates his interpretation of each step and the influences on their development from 12 step history. Also, it embraces the information from non-twelve step books he has read, the guidance he has received from various mentors, and the aggregate of experiences of his spiritual journey.
Herb's personal journey includes seven years in the seminary, a graduate education in psychology, and a 40-year career in human resources consulting. His new book is "Twelve Steps To Spiritual Awakening, Enlightenment For Everyone"

Ken Sheetz (buzzbroz.com) and Dr. Sarah Larsen produced the local LA event for Dreamshield.org, a 24 hour international event celebrated on 10/10/10 to begin planting seeds for a gentle 2012. While on recent social media assignment in Italy, Ken Sheetz, who built Oprah's Harpo Studios before becoming a filmmaker and social media professional - sickened by media hype feeding off fear about the end of the Mayan calendar - had a powerful protective vision of a gentle 2012. DreamShield's purpose is to foster events to dispel fear about 2012 and to proclaim the truth of a bright future for humankind.

Football Season is Here, Time to Move the Ball!

Football season has always been a passion for me. One Charger game I was away from my TV and sat in my car. The station was weak and mostly all I got, except between ten minute intervals, was static because I live in LA and the radio station carrying the game was in San Diego.
I even used to go to meetings with a transistor radio and an earpiece, trying to be in two places at once.
No more earpieces at meetings today. Maybe that's thanks to DVRs, some of my pals would say, but the fact is I know where my priorities lie. And it's in building up The Cool Change Foundation into the kind of institution that can help people across the nation and the world lead healthier and happier lives.

Labor of Love Day

"Happy Tuesday that feels like a Monday," is something I coined for these Tuesday's after a long weekend. The short week makes these Tuesdays a lot happier than the typical Monday. So that line is always good at least for a smile.
We labored hard at the charity the week leading up to Labor Day. A lot of changes after we re-branded our radio show and YouTube station from THE QUICK FIX to COOL CHANGE RADIO & TV. BuzzBroz created the great new banner top of this post mark the occasion.
But BuzzBroz founder Ken Sheetz was not done with his labors of love for our charity and created this amazing look at his childhood, coping with family issues over his father's drinking problems.
